When you decide that you’re ready to recover from drug addiction, you need to know where you can get the help you need. You need to find people, places, and resources with behavioral health expertise and experience in treating drug addiction. But if you’re unfamiliar with addiction recovery or new to the addiction treatment process, you might not know where to look for help. In most cases, though, your options for help with a drug addiction depend on how ready you are to begin the recovery process.

When You’re Ready to Begin Addiction Treatment

When you’re ready to rehabilitate your life and begin addiction treatment, you should turn to professional rehab and recovery centers.

Drug Rehabilitation and Recovery Centers

/Drug rehab centers specialize in providing treatment for substance use disorders. These treatment facilities provide staff members, clinical personnel, and therapists with experience treating people in addiction recovery. Drug rehab centers also offer programs specifically designed to treat certain substance use disorders. These programs will provide you the help you need to recover from drug addiction. The most common programs which drug rehabilitation facilities offer include:

  • Detox Programs. This is the first step you’ll need to take when you’re ready to get help for a substance use disorder. The goal is simple: to rid your body of addictive substances. Most detox programs last anywhere from 3 to 7 days, but the length needed for detox also depends on how long you have used the substance as well as how frequently and how much of the drug you have used. As helpful and productive as detox is, ridding your body of drugs doesn’t resolve why you started using drugs in the first place. So when your body is substance-free, you’ll begin therapy and treatment in one or a combination of the following programs.
  • Outpatient Treatment. If you don’t need to live at a residential facility, you can find help for substance use disorders in an outpatient program. Outpatient treatment allows you to live at home and receive therapy, medication, and counseling on a part-time basis. This solution for addiction recovery provides you with the help you need while accommodating your schedule at the same time. You can work, go to school, get a job, and spend time with your family during the day while attending individual and group counseling sessions in the evenings or on the weekends.
  • Inpatient Treatment. If you need round-the-clock support or prefer to stay onsite at a rehabilitation center while recovering from substance use challenges, you can find the help you need through an inpatient program. On average, residential treatment lasts for about 5 weeks and includes cognitive behavioral therapy, group counseling, family therapy, and other recovery and physical activities. Here at Solution Based Treatment & Detox, our residential program explores self-worth, and behavior patterns in addition to therapy. You’ll live in housing owned and operated by the recovery center and will follow a daily schedule. Our residential homes have certified full-time chefs who provide our residents with 3 healthy meals a day.
  • Partial Hospitalization Programs. Not every rehab center has this program available, but partial hospitalization is our highest-level outpatient treatment solution. You’ll meet with a certified chemical dependency counselor and licensed therapist. We created this program to satisfy our needs for social outlets, as well. So while you recover, you’ll also participate in sober social outings like going to the beach, hiking, and sports competitions.
  • Dual Diagnosis Treatment. If you’re looking to recover from drug addiction while also dealing with anxiety, depression, and mood swings, you may find the help you need in a dual diagnosis program. This particular program helps treat mental health and substance use disorders simultaneously.

In addition to treatment, you can also turn to peer support groups for help when you’re ready to recover from drug addiction.

  • Peer Support Groups. Support is vital when you’re recovering from substance use challenges. Peer support groups like Narcotics Anonymous provide support and community in a non-judgmental environment. NA and other 12-step meetings can hold you accountable as you take work toward long-term sobriety. Sober events are full of people on a similar recovery journey, which can help keep you motivated. You might meet people at addiction recovery events, as well. If you do, they can share recommended rehab centers and recovery resources with you.

When You’re Thinking About Recovery But Not Ready to Begin Treatment

If you’re thinking about recovery but not quite ready to begin treatment, you can turn to the following people for help as you consider ways to overcome substance abuse challenges:

  • Mentor or spiritual advisor. Mentors are wise, gentle, considerate, helpful, and give thoughtful advice. When you’re thinking about making significant changes in your life, especially if they’re going to be difficult, you should talk to a mentor. Because you’ve already established trust with this person, you’ll probably be open to hearing what they have to say. Your mentor knows how to talk to you in a way that’s approachable and encouraging yet stern. Mentors and spiritual advisors also know how to follow up with you thanks to your established personal relationship. If you’re thinking about recovering but not sure who you can trust with such sensitive information about your life, talk to a mentor or spiritual advisor. They’ll help point you in the right direction.
  • Counselor or therapist. If you’re seeing a therapist or counselor for any reason, you can go to them for help for drug addiction, as well. They’re professional, knowledgeable, and have resources to help you get on the path to recovery. Your counselor can also help you begin to uncover some of the reasons why you turn to substance use. You may also want to discuss your addiction recovery goals with your physician, who can provide health recommendations.
  • A trusted friend or family member. You may not feel as comfortable sharing substance use challenges with family members and friends, but if you need help and aren’t ready for rehab, talk to the family member or friend you trust the most. Tell them about your struggles and why you’re hesitant to share this information with them. They may be surprised to hear from you, but if they’re as loving and supportive as you believe they are, they’ll do everything within their power to get you the help you need.
