Group Therapy

Group therapy is a kind of psychotherapy. Under supervision, groups of people (often peers) meet together to discuss problems they’ve been dealing with in their lives. These group sessions help provide insight and emotional release.

What Is Group Therapy?

In group therapy, multiple patients can receive treatment at the same time. Group therapy can be made up of groups of all men, all women, or both genders. They can be limited to a specific topic such as alcohol abuse (12-step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous) or general therapy groups with an overarching theme (PTSD or trauma, for example).

The Role of Group Therapy in Treating Substance Use Disorders

For those who go to group therapy as a part of addiction treatment, the goal is to build community and to gain better insight into the actions that may lead to substance abuse and relapse. People in group therapy learn new ways to cope and may work with mentors or peers in a “buddy system” to encourage ongoing sobriety and accountability.

The Role of Group Therapy in Treating Mental Health Disorders

Those with mental health disorders may be working on ways of coping with them. They may have questions about a new diagnosis or wonder how to manage their condition to prevent a relapse related to their dual diagnosis. Group therapy, which generally has up to 15 people, will meet a few times weekly for an hour or two at a time to give people time to discuss what’s happening in their lives, how they’re feeling, and what would help them. Some groups focus on topics such as building better self-esteem or overcoming shyness and anger.

Relapse Prevention and Group Therapy

Relapse prevention is an important part of recovery. Group therapy helps with this because it gives you an opportunity to build community and learn from those who have gone through similar situations to your own. In group therapy, you can talk about the issues that are bothering you and the challenges you’ve been up against, giving you a sounding board to get support to stay sober.

How Does Group Therapy Work?

Group therapy in Murrieta is straightforward. When you attend, you’ll sit with around five to 15 people and a group leader (normally a psychiatrist, psychologist, therapist, counselor, or other provider). You may share about yourself, listen to others, or learn from the leader. Sessions are usually an hour or two long.

Is Group Therapy Covered by Insurance?

Group therapy is one of the types of treatment that may be covered by insured plans. They may used as a part of outpatient treatment, inpatient addiction treatment, or residential care in treatment facilities. Our Admissions Department can contact your insurer to verify your benefits when you seek treatment at Solution Based Treatment. Then, we’ll let you know if your insurance company will cover the cost of treatment, whether you want substance abuse treatment, individual therapy, or group therapy.

Our Treatment Programs

At Solution Based Treatment, we put your addiction, mental health, and behavioral health care first. We have several treatment programs to help you on the path to long-term sobriety.

Inpatient Detox Programs

Inpatient detox is a residential treatment that lets you detox from drugs or alcohol with 24-hour support. You will live in one of our treatment centers during the detoxification. SBT offers alcohol detox, opioid detox and prescription drug detox programs.

Inpatient Rehab Programs

After detoxing, you can explore inpatient rehab programs. Inpatient rehab programs support you as you work on your mental health, behavioral health, and learning to cope with a substance use disorder (SUD).

Partial Hospitalization Programs

For those who need medical support, partial hospitalizations may be a good choice. Partial hospitalization generally requires you to be hospitalized throughout most of the day (every day) for a period of time. You return home at night.

Residential Mental Health Program

Residential mental health programs at Solution Based Treatment are 30, 45, or 60 days long. During residential stays, you live in the facility and receive meals. It’s a 24-hour-a-day support system perfect for giving you a head start on your journey.

What Our Alumni Say About Us

“It was a blessing to stumble upon Solution Based Treatment. They’ve taught me how to be a better communicator, they’ve taught me how to live with myself and not run away. I attribute this to the care and the accountability of the staff here.”

“How can I put it…even though there’s other clients, it’s almost like it’s one-on-one. And the attention, as far as talking to therapists, your counselors, psychiatrists, and the groups and the meetings have been great. It’s nothing but good attention!”

“Oh my gosh…The counseling and the therapy have probably been some of the biggest things for me. I have been in treatment multiple times and I’ve never had the one-on-one counseling or therapy that I’ve gotten here. If you truly want recovery and professionalism…this is absolutely the best place to be.
